Describe
2 different activities or lessons could you have students do that would
promote Digital Citizenship. What would the assignment be, does it
encompass all four aspects of the standard?
I'm a history nerd at heart. A park ranger who fully believes in using the resources that the National Park Service offers us. So my activities would definitely be geared towards that.
Activity Number 1
Become a Web Ranger
I would have the kids get use computers to log on to the National Park Service Web Rangers website and create their profiles. I would then group the kids who wanted to work on the history portion, the kids who wanted the science portion, the animal portion, the parks portion, and the people portion so that they could all help one another through. Then when they had completed their section I would have the kids collaborate on a brief presentation about what they learned in their section to show to the rest of the class.
Activity Number 2
Park Research
I would have the children research different national parks and then get into small groups based on which parks they wanted to know more about. Then I would have them gather information regarding the parks founding year, purpose, activities offered, acreage etc, by having them email rangers from that park with their questions and preferably if the rangers agreed Skyping the kids to answer the questions. They would present their information to the class using a prezi.
These activities would be good be with kids that are in fourth or fifth grade.
